WTA Adelaide Preview: Inglis vs McHale

Posted on

Given the performances of the majority of the Australian players in the first round of qualifying, and the overall form of Maddison Inglis over the last 12 months (including at UTR level), the Aussie looks a really nice price her to win through qualifying.

I am not sure Christina McHale is worthy of being such a heavy favourite here off her recent form. She lost to Podoroska in straight sets at the Australian Open, and backed that up with a 3 set loss to Zarina Diyas in the Phillip Island Trophy. The American won through the first round of qualifying here by defeating Ivana Popovic in straight sets as a heavy favourite. It was by no means convincing, having to come from a break down in each set. Against a far more consistent player in Inglis, I don’t think I can justify the starting price in the $1.55 range today.

Inglis at home here looks the value play. Were it not for poor break point conversion against Woolcock, that score would have been far more one-sided. Look for the Australian to challenger McHale here, and at the value price above $2.50 I am happy to get involved for 1.5 units.
