WTA Adelaide Preview: Doi vs Samsonova

Posted on

A short preview between Eat Sleep Tennis Episodes but I have Samsonova a touch under $1.50 in this one, making her slight value in her match with Misako Doi.

Doi’s best win of the year came against Caroline Garcia in the weirdly timed Phillip Island Trophy, played in the second week of the Grand Slam. I saw Doi live against Tomljanovic the previous week and to me Doi currently looks to be a player low on confidence. Her game is built around her movement and counterpunch ability, and when you aren’t sure of yourself in playing that type of game, things can get messy. Against Arina Rodionova in the first round, who still looks to be below 100% physically, Doi got a lot more her own way, something she won’t receive today against a bigger striker in Samsonova.

The Russian was on from the outset yesterday, defeating Kim Birrell 6-3 6-2 in 83 minutes. She consistently generated break point chances, and put together the type of consistent performance I like to see from her. In a more favourable match-up today, this match is on her racquet.

Happy to play Samsonova here, and I would recommend the game handicap if accessible to you. As they are not available everywhere, I will have to record this at the shorter head to head price for 1.5 units.

I look forward to markets for WTA top level qualifying becoming more widely available, or even available at all at some books.

Suggested Bet

1.5 units Samsonova to defeat Doi at $1.66 at Bet365
