Vinny’s Challenger Morelos Preview – Christian Langmo vs Alex Hernandez

Posted on

I don’t see too big of a talent gap between Christian Langmo and Alex Hernandez. The two have faced each other once in 2021 when Langmo overcame a 1-4, 15-40 deficit in the third set to beat the young Mexican. If we’re looking at their current forms, the pendulum quite clearly swings to Hernandez.

The now-24-year-old took a set off Murkel Dellien Velasco in Merida before even beating Facundo Mena and Bor Artnak and only losing in three close sets to Skander Mansouri in Mexico City last week. A straight-set win over Daniil Glinka and a demolition of Evan Zhu are good indicators of form at that level as well.

Langmo on the contrary still struggles to get going in 2024. The American lost to David Pichler, Aidan Mayo and Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha in Mexico and also didn’t find his drive on Asian and Australian hard courts where he lost to players like Arthur Weber (twice), Mikalai Haliak or Jayden Court. If Langmo turns the ship tonight, then fair enough. Anyway, I have this match with Hernandez a coin flip.
