Alex’s WTA Bogota Outright Preview

Posted on

It’s time for Copa Colsanitas or, as you may know it, the WTA 250 event in Bogota, Colombia. This is one of my favorite events because it is a very unique location. Bogota sits at an altitude of 8,612 feet or 2,640 meters for those of you from countries that don’t use the silly Imperial Measurement System. That is the highest elevation for any city with a population over 3 million. For comparison, Denver, USA which is known as the “Mile High City” is only 5,280 feet or 1,609 meters. The air in Bogota is very thin which means two things. First, and most obvious, it is very difficult for players who are not in peak condition or used to altitude to play in Bogota. Second, it creates faster conditions which helps serves and power players. These are courts where prior experience and success matter greatly. Tatjana Maria is the two time defending champion who took advantage of her place as a qualifier to win in 2022 and carried that success through to win again in 2023. The 2021 champion, Camila Osorio was born in Colombia and made the quarterfinals before taking home the trophy. Little known players like Lara Arruabarrena and Sara Sorribes Tormo have made deep runs in this event several times. Knowing how to play in these conditions is a boon.

Another player who has done well here is Tamara Zidansek. She made the quarterfinals in 2019 and 2023 and finished second losing to Osorio in the championship match in 2021. Zidansek sits in the first quarter and would have to face Marie Bouzkova in round two, but that is her only real obstacle until the final. Everyone else in the top half of the draw is a qualifier, a worse player than Zidansek, or lacking the experience needed to thrive in Bogota. Bouzkova is a better player than Zidansek and at times, one of the better players on tour. The thing that holds her back is her physical fitness and a seemingly endless list of injuries. These are not the best conditions for Bouzkova to thrive. Zidansek is a small underdog to Hailey Baptiste in round one, but I have her favored in that match and favored in every match until the final unless she has to face Bouzkova in round two. I’ll be betting in her both of those matches, but I’m also betting on her now. You can get her to win the tournament at 26.00(+2500) or better and I have her closer to 16(+1500). I’m betting that and you should too.

Suggested Bet
0.5U – Tamara Zidansek to win WTA Bogota 26.00(+2500) or better
