Alex’s WTA Miami Preview – Parry vs Haddad Maia

Posted on

The second part of the sunshine double is upon us with a WTA 1000 event in Miami, USA. We’re in the second round an there’s a matchup I think the market the market has priced poorly. Beatriz Haddad Maia is currently ranked 13th, but that ranking is based on, for the most part, her performance last season. The Brazilian is just 7-8 this year with most of her wins coming on quicker courts where her serve is most valuable. BHM has been competitive in her losses with 4 of those 8 matches going to 3 sets, but that’s as nice as I can be about her 2024 WTA season. She faces Diane Parry who is playing the best tennis of her career. Parry made the quarterfinals in Auckland and Austin and took Maria Sakkari to a 3rd set in Indian Wells. BHM is playing her first match in Miami while Parry beat Jaqueline Cristian in round one. I make this match pretty close with Haddad Maia a small favorite at 1.95(-105) and Parry 2.05(+105), but that is based on last season and this season’s results. If I filter on 2024, I have the Frenchwoman a small favorite. Give me Parry to win.
