Alex’s Indian Wells Preview – Wozniacki vs Swiatek

Posted on

It’s time for the quarterfinals for the WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells, USA. In the first quarter, we have a matchup between Iga Swiatek and Caroline Wozniacki. The Dane stepped away from tennis in 2020, but returned to action late last season in Montreal, Canada. Wozniacki has won four matches in this event after winning just five of her first eleven matches since returning to the WTA. It’s great to see her playing well, but her four wins in this tournament came against Lin Zhu, Donna Vekic, Katie Volynets, and Angelique Kerber. That’s not exactly the best players women’s tennis has to offer and the first three were not dominating wins. Iga Swiatek is the best player in the WTA and has been crushing opponents for months, if not years, at this point. She is 17-2 this year and has only allowed opponents to win 6.2 games per match on average. In her victories, that number drops to 5.4 games. Most of those performances have come on faster hard courts which is not ideal for her game. In Indian Wells, on slower courts, she has allowed opponents to win an average of 3.33 games in her three comfortable wins. I expect Iga to continue to dominate and beat Wozniacki easily. We can bet on Swiatek -6.5 games at 1.83(-120) or bet the match to go under 18 games in total at 1.91(-110). I’m going with the latter. Iga can lose a set and still cover the spread of 6.5 games, but this match goes two sets most of the time and it’s easier to go under 18 games than it is to cover 6.5 games. 6-4 6-2 win by Iga is a push for us, but a loser for anyone with -6.5 at a higher price.
