Vinny’s Challenger Santa Cruz Preview – Camilo Ugo Carabelli vs Juan Carlos Prado Angelo

Posted on

Giving the talented home town hero a go on his birthday. Prado Angelo is another former junior #1 and he’s getting his first results in on the pro tour as well, including winning an ITF event here in Santa Cruz last December. The local beat Federico Agustin Gomez 6-4, 6-0 in round one, which is a very decent result.

Make no mistake, Camilo Ugo Carabelli is the much better player as of right now, however, I’m not convinced by his current (fitness) level. He capitalized on the retirement of Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in round one and was forced to retire himself in Rio de Janeiro mid-February.

Crowds in South America are always special, so with a local prodigy competing, the Bolivians should push Prado Angelo to another level. Not only do I think the Santa Cruz born can keep this close, if Ugo Carabelli is still struggling with injury, he might as well go all the way.
