Unless there’s something the market knows that I don’t, this price on Taro Daniel is getting a bit out of hand. Yes, Marcos Giron is in some fine form, but making him a 70%+ favorite over a capable player in Daniel is rather absurd to me. Conditions in Cabo are different to the ones Giron played in in recent weeks and in fact, the slower courts should suit Daniel more. The 31-year-old played well in Mexico this time around last year, beating Jeff Wolf and Casper Ruud and only losing to eventual title winner Alex de Minaur at the Acapulco ATP 500 event. I’m expecting some regression in Giron’s game and as I said, I have this a 60/40 contest, not a 70/30 one.
