Both Jaqueline Adina Cristian and Jodie Anna Burrage can be labeled as indoor beasts. Their big hitting obviously works best on quick and slick surfaces and Linz has been a good place especially for the Romanian. JAC entered the 2021 main draw as a lucky loser and went all the way to the final where she lost a tight third set to Alison Riske. This time, history could repeat itself as Cristian is into the main draw again after losing her final qualifying match to Clara Tauson. The loss against the young Dane was quite the beatdown, however, she’s also looking like a potential tournament winner.
Burrage is also capable of playing a high level of tennis, but only for a certain amount of time. The 24-year-old is still wildly inconsistent in most of her matches and I wouldn’t want to rely on her reproducing the same level as she did last round against Varvara Gracheva. To me, Cristian is the more consistent player of the two, which also shows in her new-found success on clay. Adding to that, JAC is also a good chunk of points ahead of JAB when it comes to Elo ratings. All said, I think the wrong woman is favored here at the moment as I’m betting Cristian and a few overs in a match that will be shaped by big hitting.
