Vinny’s Australian Open Women’s Preview – Linda Noskova vs Dayana Yastremska

An odds jump from 1.49 (-204) to 1.61 (-164) is pretty significant as it’s equivalent to a 5% adjustment in implied probabilities. Now I wasn’t actively looking to get involved in this fascinating quarterfinal between two massive ball strikers, however, the market move was just a little much for my liking.

Dayana Yastremska is playing some great tennis from out of nowhere. We all knew she was capable of going on such a run, but no one should be surprised if her inconsistency kicks in again either. It’s been four matches of playing solid tennis – at least for what we know of Yastremska – and I wouldn’t necessarily count on that to continue.

Linda Noskova, after defeating world #1 Iga Swiatek, effectively got an extra rest day since Elina Svitolina was forced to retire from their fourth-round match at 0-3 in the first. Anyone would be the more consistent player in a matchup with Yastremska, however, it’s not like Noskova relies simply on Yastremska’s errors. The 19-year-old brings a big serve and some firepower to the table herself and constructs points better than most players her age. Since there’s a definite possibility of Yastremska redlining for a set, I won’t go big on handicaps here, but a standard stake on the well-rounded Czech teenager to make it one step further is reasonable.
