ATP Cup Preview: Fritz vs Zverev

Posted on

Preview: Taylor Fritz is one of the players that I am keeping a *very* close eye on to start 2022. Can he cause an upset here against Alexander Zverev?

It wouldn’t be the first time, with Fritz defeating Zverev in a very tight match-up at Indian Wells in October. In fact, Fritz was one of the players who ended 2021 in decent form, and notched wins over Zverev, Rublev, Berrettini, Norrie and Shapovalov amongst others across the course of the season. Although he did drop the first set the other day to FAA after leading *6-2 in the tiebreak, the response from Fritz was incredibly impressive, with the American losing only 9 points on serve across the course of the second and third sets. With John Isner a warm favourite to take the first match of the tie, hopefully Fritz will enter into the match with a lead and the ability to open up the shoulders and play with some freedom.

I haven’t quite found value in the moneyline price, as Zverev is still arguably the form active player on tour, however I do feel Fritz is playing well enough to send this over the total of 21 games.
