Preview: Whilst I mentioned that my main style of opponent Ruud struggles with most is the bigger strikers of the ball on hardcourts, I do see Roberto Bautista Agut causing the Norwegian some grief here on a slowish hardcourt in Sydney.
The key to this match-up, and something I think that RBA may be able to use to his advantage, is the Spaniard’s ability to hit with depth off both wings. The deeper you can hit to Ruud on both wings, the harder it is for him to establish offensive positioning consistently in rallies.
This match has the ability to be one of the better matches of the entire ATP Cup, and I have the odds closer to a coin flip, with both players likely to enjoy the longer rallies. If RBA can continue to hit flat and with depth, and he has taken a bit of confidence from his one-sided win yesterday, he should get the win for Spain here.
