When players are near coin flip odds in a match such as this, I am comfortable siding with the player with more runs on the board of late on outdoor hardcourt.
I have backed Clara Tauson a couple of times over the last 12-18 months, however like others I have mentioned recently, she is still of an age where there can be some issues around consistency. Looking at her form of late on the hards and whilst she has been able to notch up some solid victories, I don’t quite see her strength of opposition, or strength of victory, matching up to those of Ann Li. Li has shown patches of solid form not only at WTA level in 2021, and has impressed me again this week in her three matches to date. Some of her best performances this year have come in conditions similar to Chicago this week, and I am happy to back her in through this match-up for 1.5 units.
