Of the four matches scheduled in Verona today, I like the underdog in two of them.
Please note, whilst it is convenient that the two favourites I am opposing have all got US Open Qualifying on their agenda next week (players have already started converging on Flushing Meadows, with qualifying commencing on Tuesday), I have these two below pegged as value without that situational fact.
Clarke vs Popko
Whilst Jay Clarke perhaps doesn’t have the weapons off the forehand and backhand wings, his physical ability may be the biggest weapon here against a player that can be incredibly impatient in Dmitry Popko. Popko is coming off a full week last week, and whilst he may have been able to use his experience to oust Zeppieri yesterday, I don’t like him at the same odds today against one of the fitter Challenger players on tour, and at $2.10 there is enough value there for a 2 unit selection.

Bonadio vs Rune
I had Bonadio pegged at $3.60 in this match-up with Holger Rune, who has put together a couple of weeks of very impressive tennis between San Marino and Italy. I very rarely back teenagers at Challenger level as a favourite, and I think he is just a touch too short here, even with the 7 wins in the last 9 days. Bonadio has been solid without being spectacular, and for mine he looks to be value to the point of a 0.75 unit selection at $4.25+
