Steve’s ATP Nur Sultan Challenger Preview: Stakhovsky vs Kubler

Posted on

I bet on this match-up at the Australian Open Qualifying in the Middle East in January (preview here). I won’t add to much to what I said on that occasion, except for the following points:

  1. Kubler led 5-1 in the first set of that match before the wind picked up significantly and frustrated the Australian. Experience shone through from that point.
  2. Kubler is coming into this match-up with better form and fitness compared to January, having had more competitive matches under his belt, including an ITF title the other week. Stakhovsky on the other hand has continued to regress on hardcourt in my opinion. He has been able to notch up a couple of wins at Challenger level, however none have come against opponents that either play in the same style as Kubler or for that fact would beat/cover against Kubler at the same game handicap.

It is nice to see some game handicaps available for this match. In more favourable conditions for Kubler compared to January, look for the Australian to win and cover here against Stakhovksy on his retirement tour at Challenger level.

Suggested Bet

2 units Kubler -2.5 games vs Stakhovsky at $1.96 at Topsport ($1.94 at Pinnacle)
