I think the wrong player is favoured here, with Irina Maria Bara currently listed as an underdog to Kristyna Pliskova.
Has breaking her losing streak on grass turned around the fortunes of Pliskova? The Czech played a very limited schedule on the clay this year, with losses in round 1 at Belgrade, Strasbourg and Roland Garros. It was an interesting approach given she showed some decent signs on clay late in 2020, however I don’t see there being enough recent form for Pliskova to warrant favouritism against a player like Bara.
Bara may not have the same scalps on the clay across the last 12 months, however her body of work as a whole is more impressive. She is a decent return of serve, something that is necessary to get the bigger ball of Pliskova back into play and into a decent rally situation consistently.
I have Bara rated at $1.80 in this one, so the $2+ on offer is worth a small play. I will play this for 1 unit.
