Steve’s WTA French Open Preview: Juvan vs Swiatek

Posted on

We are going to see some BIG handicaps across the fortnight for Iga Swiatek, and we kick things off with a handicap at the 7 game mark against talented 20 year old Kaja Juvan.

These two met earlier this year straight out of quarantine in Melbourne, with Swiatek taking the victory 2-6 6-2 6-1. Since transitioning to the clay Juvan has had a tough run, albeit competitive in her three losses. She has taken sets off Zidansek, Arruabarrena and Putintseva, however I think the conditions first on court with a decent weather forecast do suit Juvan a little more than the cold and heavier conditions we saw Swiatek dominate in Paris last year. Swiatek’s win over Pliskova in the final in Rome was impressive indeed, however she dropped a set to Krejcikova, was in a first set battle before Riske retired, had 7-5’s against Keys and Svitolina and a tiebreak against Gauff. She is winning, but her overall stats on clay to start this year are skewed by the Pliskova match a touch.

Happy to make a 1 unit play on Juvan to cover the large game handicap against Swiatek, who is defending her first grand slam and kicking off round 1 on her birthday. Juvan has the aggression and shotmaking to have patches in this one, and the fact she will be able to dictate at times makes this large game handicap appeal.

Suggested Bet

1 unit Juvan +7 games vs Swiatek at $1.95 at Topsport

Note: If you cannot access +7 games, I would take the over 17.5 games instead of the +6.5.
