Steve’s WTA Charleston Preview – Sanders vs Liu

Kaja Juvan. Belinda Bencic. Jessica Pegula. Petra Kvitova.

They are the four players to have beaten Storm Sanders. The resurgence in the Australian’s career has continued. We saw Sanders start to make waves again on the singles tour at the end of 2019 into the start of 2020. COVID got in the way of her run, however she has been able to maintain her form and deliver incredibly solid play across the start of 2021 in both singles and doubles.

Her doubles partner, Ellen Perez, lost to her opponent Claire Liu in three sets in the final round of qualifying. Liu has spent the majority 2021 playing North American ITF’s, after she bowed out in the second round of qualifying for the Australian Open in January. Whilst she has been successful at ITF level, this is a big step up in terms of opposition and level on the green clay in Charleston.

I was anticipating Sanders being in the ballpark of $1.50 today, so there is value in her price. I could make a case for taking the slightly higher odds on the small game handicap for Sanders, although I am more than content with the $1.70+ that is currently available for 2 units.

Suggested Bet

2 units Sanders to defeat Liu at $1.72 at Bet365 ($1.77 at Pinnacle and $1.87 at Bethard)
