ATP Monte Carlo – Musetti vs Karatsev
What a brilliant match we have here to kick off Monday in Monte Carlo. Both players have made significant strides forward over the last 8-10 months, yet only one will be moving past the first round to face Stefanos Tsitsipas.
I am a little surprised to see Musetti starting at longer odds here than he did in Cagliari against Djere, especially given this is Karatsev’s first tournament back on the clay. Whilst the Karatsev power game is evident, Musetti does possess the defensive ability required to take it to the Russian.
I will keep this to 1.5 units, however, as I do have some question marks regarding how the Karatsev clay Challenger form of late 2020 stacks up here at ATP level. Obviously he has produced a very high level on hardcourt to start the year, so it will be interesting to see how he handles things first up here.
Happy to take the Italian as a slight underdog.
