WTA Gippsland Trophy Preview: Muchova vs McNally

Posted on

Caty McNally got the late call up yesterday as an alternate, and she made the most of it in round 1, defeating Sara Sorribes Tormo in a long, gruelling 3-set match. It came at a cost though, with McNally struggling physically in the latter portion of the match, including taking a medical timeout at the end of the second set. Off such little tennis and with such a quick back-up here, she has it all against her against Karolina Muchova today.

I spoke at length about Muchova on the show yesterday, so I will keep this short. I think we may see some value on her in the early stages of 2021 based on her injury issues at the US Open and subsequent form to round out the year. Muchova is a much better player than those results suggested, and against McNally with a physical issue should be too strong. I would be more concerned here if Muchova hadn’t previously shown the ability to play with controlled aggression, which will be required today.

Happy to take Muchova here, and she is actually starting at longer odds vs McNally than Tormo did, which is a little bit of an insult.

Suggested Bet

1.5 units Muchova -5 games vs McNally at $2.01 at Topsport (and Pinnacle)
