Laura Siegemund is one of those players that I prefer to oppose over the shorter sample size (aka 1 set) and support over the course of a whole match. In today’s outing, her price looks to be a little short in these conditions against Zarina Diyas.
I don’t think Diyas’ loss to Alexandrova in Abu Dhabi is as bad as the 4-6 4-6 result looked on paper. Both players had even break point opportunties, and in the end it was conversion that got the Russian over the line. Cast an eye over the recent outdoor hardcourt form of Siegemund and there is vulnerability in her game in this type of match-up, with the majority of control and the ability to dictate sitting with Diyas for the most part.
What Siegemund does have to her advantage is her fitness and her ability to grind down opponents over a long period. The longer this match goes, the more I would rather side with Siegemund. That being said, $2.50 for Diyas to win control the first 45 minutes of this match-up and take the first set looks to be great value on an outdoor hardcourt,
