ATP Paris Masters 1000 Preview: Raonic vs Bedene

Posted on

Bedene vs Raonic (Approx 09:00pm AEDT)

Aljaz Bedene is starting a little shorter than he was when these two players met in Antwerp a couple of weeks ago, however I would suggest he should be starting even shorter again.

Whilst I very rarely get involved in matches involving Milos Raonic (last one was Raonic vs Pospisil at the US Open from memory), I think he is under the odds in Paris coming off an injury withdrawal less than a fortnight ago. In Antwerp, Raonic put 72% of his first serves into play, and Bedene still had double break/set point in the second set, and led the tiebreak 3-1. Bedene also ended his week last week with an injury, retiring when Dan Evans was serving to stay in the second set with a thigh issue.

Abdominal issues and big servers are generally not a fantastic combination, and I am far more concerned with the injury from the Raonic camp than Bedene’s to be perfectly honest. Raonic looks to be way too short given the circumstances. I don’t think the form gap in these indoor conditions is anywhere near as wide as the odds suggest. Bedene is able to step in and take the ball early, and will have learnt a lot from their most recent meeting. Happy to step in at the longer odds on Bedene and make a 2 unit selection here.

Suggested Bet

2 units Bedene to defeat Raonic at $4.60 at Topsport
