Azarenka vs Schmiedlova (Approx 07:00pm AEST)
I got heckled and blocked by a few people for my thoughts on Tamara Korpatsch the other day. Luckily, I still enjoy writing previews about big underdogs at value prices.
Today we have another one, with a small appeal to the price of Schmiedlova here first up on court against Victoria Azarenka. Azarenka didn’t look too comfortable to kick off round one, taking the bold step of storming off court due to the conditions, whilst every other court continued to play through the light drizzle. After struggling before the break, Azarenka was able to overwhelm Danka Kovinic, winning 6-1 6-2. Azarenka was aided by a high first serve percentage of 79%, considering she was only able to generate 8 winners for the match. Whilst she is going to struggle to hit winners consistently, it will be her ability to generate forced errors from the other end of the court.
When I saw Schmiedlova was due to face Azarenka in the second round, I priced this up to have Anna at $5, so there is a bit of value in the price. She was aggressive in her 6-4 6-4 win over Venus Williams in round 1, however was able to break the American 6 times across the two sets.
I very rarely side with Schmiedlova unless she presents as quite a big price, such is the gulf between her best tennis and her worst tennis. That is why I would rather take the head to head price for 1 unit, instead of taking a game handicap for more units. I think the value lies in the head to head, and I am happy to take this for 1 unit to kick off day 4.
