ATP Roland Garros Qualifying: Purcell vs Guinard

Purcell vs Guinard (Approx 06:00pm AEST)

I was a little disappointed to see so much money come for Max Purcell in this match when odds first opened up, as I felt the opener at $2.48 at Pinnacle looked to be a value selection in this one. His price came in as far as $2.08, before gradually drifting back out to the opening price again.

Purcell is an underrated singles player, who could have made his way into more qualifying singles draws recently. Instead, he has focussed on double, which may in fact have opened up a nice price for him here against Guinard, who has most of his success on clay at ITF level.

At the start of this year Purcell made a concerted effort to work on his fitness, and he was rewarded with three wins in qualifying on his way to the main draw of the Australian Open (as well as reaching the men’s doubles final). I was a little critical at how defensive he was at times on the hardcourt, however his court coverage, ability to read opposition shot selection and overall awareness will come in handy today.

Guinard has put together some impressive results at ITF level and a couple at Challenger level, however his recent form doesn’t justify that of a heavy favourite. Purcell is back out to $2.50 and worth a 1 unit selection here.

Suggested Bet

1 unit Purcell to defeat Guinard at $2.50 at Topsport
