Results Matrix – September 15

Posted on

No video today, however here is the results matrix for September 15

To summarise:

  • Martinez, although down a break early in set 2, felt like the right play rewarded with the correct result. The game handicap closed at -4 games, which was a push, so glad to get that -3.5 game handicap.
  • Pera led a set and *2-1 and was unable to go on with the match. That is now a loss from a set up against Serena Williams, Maria Sakkari and Svetlana Kuznetsova over the last month.
  • Struff/Coria under 21.5 games managed to get there whilst taking an alternate route. I will be interested to see what happens with Struff in the doubles with a capable partner in Kontinen, given Struff is on the alternate list for his home country tournament in Hamburg next week.
  • Cocciaretto was overwhelmed by the experienced Begu, and couldn’t place any scoreboard pressure throughout the match. I would have loved to see the Italian hold that tight service game at 1-1 in the second set, however Begu’s experience in winning almost every close game got the job done. It may open up a little value opposing Begu as a favourite next round…

Of the previewed matches with no staking, it was nice to see Kasatkina win well, and Putintseva perform exceptionally off the quick turnaround from Flushing Meadows.
