ATP Challenger Aix En Provence – Cecchinato vs Tabilo

Cecchinato vs Tabilo (Approximately 06:30pm AEST)

Whilst I already had the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo as presenting as slight value in this match-up on recent form, there is a little scheduling quirk that presents as a greater opportunity to oppose Cecchinato today, and if unsuccessful, tomorrow.

In this strange end to the 2020 season, we are likely to see players look for spots to gain significant chunks of ranking points, with limited risk of points dropping off for not replicating their 2019 feats. One such opportunity arises for Marco Cecchinato next week, with the Italian listed to take part in the ATP Rome Masters 1000 Rome qualifying, which will kick off in under 48 hours. Whilst the earning opportunities are limited somewhat by the fact Cecchinato will need to go further than the second round to improve his ranking, it is difficult to see a player like Marco turning down the opportunity of a Masters 1000 qualification spot in a weakened draw the week before a grand slam.

Tabilo has been a player I have been watching on the Challenger tour over the last couple of years, and I have been incredibly impressed with his combination of power and movement. It is extremely suited to the clay, and he has looked solid on the surface over the last fortnight.

On recent form, I would give the slight edge to Tabilo. When you add in the situational quirk of Cecchinato needing to lose in the next 36 hours to reach Rome in time to participate in qualifying, that strengthens the play a touch. I am happy to play this one for 1 unit.

Suggested Bet

1 unit Tabilo to defeat Cecchinato at $2.05 at Topsport
