Kaia Kanepi, fresh and at 100%, was nearly a trading selection as her odds for the tournament neared sat over 500-1 on Betfair, given her ability to produce at the top level in the past. Kanepi looked great in a couple of exhibitions just over a month ago, with wins over Sevastova and Ostapenko, and looks primed for a solid outing here at Flushing Meadows. Sheand she has the game style to cause Siniakova a significant amount of trouble today, and looks to be value as a slight favourite.
I just haven’t seen enough from Siniakova on the hardcourt to consider her a significant challenge to Kanepi if Kaia can bring something close to her best. Siniakova put together a solid body of work on the clay during the Czech exhibition series, however I did expect better from her overall to be honest. With the court a little faster than previous years I am happy to make a play, however due to the lack of exposed form, I am going to err on the side of caution and keep this play at 1 unit as well.
