Vinny’s ATP Challenger Morelos Preview – Antoine Bellier vs Adam Walton

Posted on

Antoine Bellier is a special kind of player. The Swiss attacks the net nine times out of ten, and not only on serve. It’s almost impossible to get some rhythm when playing him, resulting in a lot of overs. Either the books price his matches like that or the market adjusts at some point and I’m surprised we’re still getting a rather low total (given his style of play) in today’s match with Adam Walton. While the 1st set over 10.5 games went from 2.75 (+175) to 2.10 (+110), the total games have barely moved.

The two have faced each other once in similar conditions, also in Mexico and also at big altitude. Bellier actually won 7-6, 7-6 this time around last year. Yes, Walton has made some progress since, but playing someone like Bellier will always be a special task. The Swiss feels most comfortable in these quick conditions and while Walton is the more consistent player, I struggle to see him break Bellier’s serve too often.
