Alex’s Indian Wells Preview – Sakkari vs Swiatek

Posted on

It’s time for the final for the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, USA. #1 seed and tournament favorite, Iga Swiatek, faces off against Maria Sakkari. The Greek has been playing some of the best tennis we’ve seen from her in a while. She is one of the fittest players in the WTA and these slow courts give her time to catch up to more balls and extend rallies. Sakkari won a 3-set war with Coco Gauff in the semifinals in one of the most impressive wins of her career. Unfortunately she now has to face the Polish Pulverizer. Swiatek continues to dominate all but just a few players in the WTA. She has only lost 17 games in the 9 complete sets she’s played. That means Iga is losing less than 2 games per set and an average of just under 18 games player per match. I’m not expecting much to change in this match and am looking for a way to bet on this being a quick final. The two best options are to back Swiatek -5.5 games 1.91(-110) or under 19 games 2.10(+110). I like the latter better than the former. Iga has covered a spread that large in some 3 set matches, but that’s going to be difficult to do against Sakkari who grinds every game. Under 19 games gives us a push at 6-4 6-3 instead of a loss and even a possible win if the Greek can win it in two. I think that total is at least a game too high, so give me the under in this match.
