Alex’s WTA Dubai Preview – Coco Gauff vs Anna Kalinskaya

Posted on

It’s time for the quarterfinals for the WTA 1000 tournament in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. All four matches should be fun, but one looks like a closer competition than the current odds would indicate. Coco Gauff is one of the best players on tour and can beat anyone else in any match and she is being priced like we should expect close to her best tennis against Anna Kalinskaya. One of the toughest parts of the tennis calendar is how the tour shifts continents for several weeks at a time. Gauff has never been at her best in the few weeks the WTA goes to the Middle East to play tournaments in Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Dubai each season. This year has been no different as Coco lost quickly to Katerina Siniakova in Doha, almost dropped a set to Elisabetta Cocciaretto in her first match in Dubai, and almost lost to Karolina Pliskova last round. Anna Kalinskaya hasn’t lost a set this week in her two qualifying wins and three main draw matches. She’s had a great start to the season and looked good in her 6-4, 7-5 win against Jelena Ostapenko last round. To be clear, Gauff is the superior player and deserves to be a strong favorite in this match, but she’s priced at 1.29(-345) with a spread of -4.5 games priced at 1.83(-120). I make it Gauff 1.45(-220) and Kalinskaya 3.20(+220) with a spread of 3.5 games. I see value on the underdog and am going to make a few smaller bets on Kalinskaya to win, +4.5 games, and +1.5 sets.

Suggested Bets
0.5U – Kalinskaya 3.75(+275) vs Gauff
0.5U – Kalinskaya +4.5 Games 1.95(-105) vs Gauff
0.5U – Kalinskaya +1.5 Sets 2.05(+105) vs Gauff
