Jake’s Cordoba Preview: Baez vs. Diaz Acosta

Posted on

At the time of writing, I’m watching Facundo Diaz Acosta play Thiago Augustin Tirante, and I’m quite confident neither has the level to bother Sebastian Baez.

The defending champion navigated through an awkward match against Dellien this morning, which was the first of his second Friday contests due to inclement weather setting the schedule back.

When the contest against the Bolivian kicked off, there was plenty of cloud cover and moisture in the air, which dramatically slowed conditions down, playing into Dellien’s favour.

Baez had a hard time penetrating the surface, and he was probably dealing with a bit of rust as well.

But as the sun began to poke through the clouds, it was very clear the surface was becoming more forgiving, and Baez began to discover the brutal ball-hitting we know him for.

He was the far classier of the two players in the latter two stanzas, and he has a substantial rest advantage over the aforementioned two playing right now.

I have a lot of faith in Baez, and this bet will leave me very exposed on him, but I don’t have an issue betting that way.

To me, the outright market was a value bet, and so was the quarters price at $1.95 – this game handicap is no different.

Baez really warmed to that Dellien clash, and I think he can pick up right where he left off.

Given the local time, Baez won’t benefit from the sun like he did earlier, but he won last year’s title at night and I just generally think he’s a class above most of this draw.
