Jake’s Marseille Preview: Fokina vs. Barrere

Posted on

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will be filthy at the way in which he was knocked out of the Australian Open as the $1.10 SP against Nuno Borges looked laughable post-match.

It’s been the tale of the Spaniard’s career as for every stunning win he’s had, there’s been an equally perplexing loss.

He’s 24 years old and would know that if he wants make a push for tour-level titles consistently, he needs to make some mental improvements.

It’s not the most exciting bet on paper, but the level Fokina is capable of producing far exceeds anything Gregoire Barrere can produce.

I mean, before the loss to Borges, Fokina knocked off Seyboth-Wild and Hurkacz at the United Cup, and then took out a tricky Lestienne in straight sets.

So, to start 2024, he’s 3-1, but is being priced like he’s amid a massive slump.

Even at the end of last season he took out the red hot Ben Shelton at Paris… he’s never far from top gear.

Barrere was unlucky to lose to Shevchenko at Montpellier last week, but the reality is that he’s 2-5 so far this season and Fokina might be his toughest opponent yet.
