I’ll keep this short as it’s starting soon, however I was expecting a handicap in the -4.5 range for Sekulic here. The 20 year old showed that his best can match it with most at Challenger level in 2023, though the grind of a full season looked to catch up with him a touch in the back end. After struggling to find range with his first serve in AO qualifying, it was a more settled performance in round 1 here, defeating Ellis in straight sets.
Imai returned to the tour in October 2023, and has only been able to notch a solid week of ITF under his belt. I don’t think the quality of opposition through qualifying or round 1 come close to the level of Sekulic, and although he will continue to rise back up the rankings this year, at this stage given his recent tennis, I cannot have him at the +3 game handicap.
