The team of Ariel Behar and Adam Pavlasek is one of the most underrated doubles pairings, at least in my opinion. Shortly after teaming up for the first time last May, the two won back-to-back Challenger titles in June and beat #8 seeds Martin/ Mies as well as world-class doubles Mektic/ Pavic at Wimbledon, actually causing the Croatians to split as they haven’t played together again afterwards. In Autumn, Behar/ Pavlasek went 9-4 indoors, establishing themselves as a solid tour-level team.
In 2024, the Uruguayan-Czech tandem only lost to strong teams in Arevalo/ Pavic and Mies/ Smith, both in a third-set tiebreak (12-14 and 8-10 resp.). At the Australian Open, they beat #9 seeds Jamie Murray and Michael Venus as well as the team of Nicolas Barrientos and Rafael Matos, winning all of their service games and only allowing two break-point opportunities in 20 games. Earlier this year, Behar/ Pavlasek also beat Erler/ Miedler and Frantzen/ Jebens with the latter actually beating today’s opponents Santiago Gonzalez and Neal Skupski the week after. The #5 seeds are a sharp side as well, however, they only formed this year, so communication might still not be at 100%, which is crucial in doubles play.
Behar/ Pavlasek faced both Gonzalez and Skupski last year, although with different partners. They beat Gonzalez/ Roger-Vasselin in Antwerp as 3.25 underdogs and only lost to Koolhof/ Skupski – the world #1 team at the time – in three sets at Wimbledon. Again, they are a doubles team on the rise and with some concerns regarding the newly-shaped formation of Gonzalez/ Skupski, I think Behar/ Pavlasek are the value side in this round-of-16 clash.
