I think the form around Sloane Stephens looks quite sound at the moment. after a strong win against Siniakova last week, Stephens fell in 3 sets to Mertens. Mertens was utterly dominant against Danielle Collins yesterday and looks to have started the year strongly, so the 3 set loss (Stephens led by a break early in the decider) is not the worst measure of form.
I’ve been against Yuan a couple of times, however scraping over the line against Shnaider and then Podoroska is still not form that is completely convincing me.
If this weren’t the week before a grand slam, this may in fact be a slightly stronger play, however the American with a -3 game handicap this looks worthy of at least a small play.
