WTA Adelaide – Haddad Maia vs Pavlyuchenkova

Posted on

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has been dealt a tough hand after her qualifying win yesterday. She is due back on court less than 19 hours after her win against Bogdan yesterday. This has made an already tough task that little bit tougher.

Haddad Maia was able to get some tennis under her belt at the United Cup, defeating Sorribes Tormo and losing to Swiatek. She finished a career best season strongly, winning Zhuhai WTA Elite Trophy without dropping a set, and now sitting just outside the world’s Top 10.

These two met in Hong Kong late last year, and the match ultimately came down to break point conversion. Pavlyuchenkova was able to convert 4/5 break point chances whilst saving 8/11 on her own serve. This included a couple of tough holds in key moments in both the first and third sets. A number of fine margins went Pavs’ way, though the Brazilian has looked better in the time since that late-season match-up.

The match-up and conditions are a little more suited to the Brazilian here with Pavlyuchenkova on the quick back-up, so a small play on the moneyline is warranted.
