2 x ATP Queens Previews – June 20, 2023

Posted on

A little under the weather today, however there are a couple of matches slated for later in the day from Queens that appeal for smaller plays today.

As fantastic as the run from Andy Murray has been on the grass at Challenger Level over the last fortnight, there is a significant step up in opposition quality today in Alex De Minaur. I do worry for the Australian when he comes up against big servers on the grass, who have the ability to take the game away from him regardless of how good his court covered and defensive ability it. He should be right in this match-up, with Murray coming off a busy fortnight and De Minaur was solid in his first showings on the grass, losing to eventual title winner Griekspoor. Not sure De Minaur should be $2 here.

I also like Grigor Dimitrov in one of the later matches against Emil Ruusuvuori. The form lines around Ruusuvuori’s wins over Nakashima, Humbert and Sinner last week don’t look to be particularly strong given the respective form of the three players, and with a player who has experience, a game that is relatively suited to the grass, and comes in with two qualifying wins over Vukic and Rinderknech, facing (and saving) just the one break point across the four sets. He may have missed the deadline to sign up for Queen’s main draw, however the two matches hold Dimitrov in good stead here coming into the match-up.
