Winning form is good form, and the qualifying form of Marton Fucsovics has been solid here coming into a round 1 match with Van De Zandshulp. Botic has struggled to maintain any sort of consistency in his level across the course of the 2023 season, with form and injury causing him concerns over the last couple of months.
Fucsovics’ consistency is part of the appeal here, especially given the level of BVDZ of late, culminating in what was a roller coaster match against Chris O’Connell in Marrackech, which ended with a final set bagel after taking the first set from 0-5 down. With form favouring Fucsovics, an adjustment to the conditions coming off a strong qualifying effort, and superior hold/break stats all favouring Fucsovics, I’m happy to make this a 2 unit selection at the current odds.
