There isn’t a lot of scope to get involved in backing Phillip Kohlschreiber in 2022, but I am still intrigued by his price on the grass.
It is actually a little unfortunate for Kohlschreiber and Barrere that they are scheduled to meet in round 1 of qualifying, with both players in the main draw of the 2021 edition. It can be somewhat difficult gauging the form of Kohlschreiber at this stage of the year, as he is coming off his worst surface in clay and transitioning to the grass, however a similar transition last year led to a couple of straight set wins in Halle before losing to Rublev, then taking Denis Shapovalov, the eventual semi finallist, to the absolute limit in a 5-setter in the first round of Wimbledon. He has a solid serve and a game that is well suited to the grass, and although Barrere has put together a couple of solid qualifying runs over the years, on their past form and this transition to the grass, I am happy to make a small play on the German.
