ATP Madrid Preview – Evans vs Rublev

Posted on

Just a quick one here with play just over an hour away.

Although it hasn’t been an overly successful year to date for Dan Evans, this looks to be a value price in the conditions in Madrid. Evans has looked really solid across the early rounds, with a straight set win over Federico Delbonis and a three set win over Roberto Bautista Agut. He is looking more settled on the clay, and seems to be enjoying the conditions.

Although Andrey Rublev has looked better off the back of his title in Belgrade, it was an unconvincing first-up effort in Madrid, defeating Jack Draper in 3 sets. I do feel as though this isn’t the most suitable match-up for Rublev on the clay, particularly with Evan’s ability to keep the ball low off the backhand wing. For mine, Rublev looks to be too short and I am happy to take Evans at the moneyline for a unit.
