In WTA Madrid qualifying, I am happy to oppose Anastasia Potapova on the quick back-up from her title winning run in Istanbul last week. Potapova got the better of me last week when she ran through Sara Sorribes Tormo, but coming off a long week to face a disruptive opponent in Saville looks to be a nice price. We haven’t seen Gavrilova on the clay since 2020 which is a slight question mark, however the form she has displayed on the hardcourt, and the time off since her Indian Wells/Miami run should hold her in good stead here. If Potapova is even slightly below 100% on the back-up, this is going to be tough.
