1 x WTA Indian Wells Preview: March 14

Posted on

Preview: Just one small play for today, coming up a little later in the schedule at Indian Wells.

I feel as though Simona Halep is still being priced a little too much on her reputation and longer term body for form than she perhaps should. Her run in Melbourne included only two Top-50 wins, and she hasn’t looked her self at times whilst working with new coaching staff for the second time this year already. She was able to get the better of an erratic Ekaterina Alexandrova in her first match, however it took three sets whilst the Russian could only put 48% of first serves in play and ended with 14 double faults.

After a poor start to the year, Coco Gauff looks to have turned the corner with her more recent performances. It was a solid run to the Doha quarter finals, which included wins over Rogers and Badosa, and her round 2 win was solid over Liu in straight sets. This match in the slow hardcourt conditions is going to largely rest on her racquet. I don’t have Gauff rated as the favourite in this match, but I do have her odds shorter than the $2.60 that is available. Happy to back her in for a unit.
