Melbourne Summer Set ATP Preview: Polmans vs Baez

Suggested Bet

1 unit Polmans to defeat Baez at $3.15 (+215) at Unibet/Betfair

Preview: Whilst Seb Baez had himself an incredibly impressive 2021, including an appearance at the ATP Next Gen Finals, I wonder if he is a little too short here for a hardcourt match against Marc Polmans.

This match-up involves the need to zoom out and take a look at the bigger picture a touch. Whilst Baez was impressive last year, rising from 312 to 97 in the world rankings, his only hardcourt matches for the YEAR were US Open qualifying (lost to Eubanks in final round) and four indoor matches at the NextGen finals under modified rules. Is it enough to go off to make him such a short favourite here in Melbourne?

The second part is to forgive the back end of 2021 from Polmans. A long, grinding season away from home didn’t quite go to plan for Marc, and the results at the end of the year, and performances, looked to me of a tired player longing for the season to be done. A couple of months at home, and back here on Melbourne Park courts, where he has shown some of his better performances over the years, presents as value for a small play here on the Australian.

Nothing excessive, however I am happy to take Polmans north of $3 for 1 unit.
