WTA Adelaide Qualifying Preview: Marino vs Kempenaers-Pocz

Posted on

Happy to jump into Kempenaers-Pocz at the long odds here.

It won’t be a large play, but those who have followed me over the last couple of years will have seen a play or two on Kempenaers-Pocz in January 2020. The now 17 year old hasn’t been very active on the ITF tour, however did play some of the WTA Events that ran in Australia late in 2020 for players looking for matches post the COVID tour suspension. What she lacks in court coverage ability for her age she well and truly makes up for with power and aggression.

Rebecca Marino is a better player than her current ranking suggests, meaning this won’t be an easy match-up for the teenager, however it wasn’t a strong finish to the 2021 season from the Canadian at ITF level and in the BJK Cup.

Marino deserves to be a *very* strong favourite, however looks to be too short here first up for the season against a player she is likely to know very little about. I will place a small play on Kempenaers-Pocz to win and on the +6.5 games.
