Whilst it isn’t a large play, I’m not sure I can let Iga Swiatek go around in this match-up at a price north of $1.70.
Whilst she didn’t look great in the early stages of her previous match against Fiona Ferro, I feel as though Swiatek did take a small step in the right direction in terms of her response to the adversity she faced. Too often of late, including a handful of occasions since Roland Garros, Swiatek has struggled the control the emotions at times, especially when in a losing position as a perceived favourite. Whilst she was clearly very tight when down a set and break, she did a fantastic job of grinding out a second set tiebreak before running away with a dominant third set result. Swiatek has a very solid all-round game for the hardcourt, and her grand slam record is superior to her opponent here in Anett Kontaveit.
For those who have followed for a while, you’ll know that I don’t give much weight to tournament wins the week before a grand slam. As a result, I don’t give too much weight to the recent performances of Anett Kontaveit, which is going to lend itself to me thinking her price is a little short here. Whilst her wins over Teichmann and Stosur have been solid, she hasn’t had to face too much adversity or challenge, which may come back to bite her in any tight moments that arise. Against a my dynamic player today, I anticipate trouble for her today.
