It has been a fun three rounds in terms of backing Mihaela Buzarnescu, however she looks to be under the odds today in the semi final against Mayar Sherif.
A little like yesterday, and the two matches previously, I won’t go back over old ground here by talking about the game of Buzarnescu too much. What I will say though, is that she had matches against players who lack any weapons to pressure her in Tomova and Arruabarrena, and then faced a player at the other end of the spectrum in Pliskova. Today she finds herself against a player who falls a little closer to the middle, and presents a far more difficult task for Buzarnescu today.
Sherif has really been able to put together an exceptional week of tennis, defeating Cornet, Eala and Kucova for the loss of 14 games. It is a significant step in the right direction in terms of her form, and for mine is suited to play against power players where she can use their pace against them at times. She is hitting her spots on her first serve at a high rate and winning at a high percentage, and her consistency against the more erratic Buzarnescu appeals greatly in this match-up.
Just a 2 unit selection, however I would have Sherif as a warm favourite on form. If she can continue to play at a similar level here, she wins in my opinion.
