Just a small play here, as I am happy to make a bet on Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu at the game handicap back in her home country.
This is another one of those matches and match-ups where Buzarnescu will have the outcome of most points coming from her racquet. She has only played the one tournament on clay since losing in 3 sets to Serena Williams in the second round of Roland Garros, where she defeated Schmiedlova and Bondar on her way to the semi final in Bastad (lost to Parrizas-Diaz). Whilst she isn’t the player we saw put together an impressive 2018 that ended with a terrible ankle injury (reached a career high of 20 that year), she looks to have put together a solid patch of tennis here across the last couple of months across surfaces, and is now at a point where I am happy with my ratings around her overall.
Viktoriya Tomova just doesn’t have enough weapons on the clay in my opinion to be a significant threat here. She hasn’t looked the same player of a couple of months ago, losing in the first round of her last 4 clay tournaments whilst only winning one set. Most of her wins on clay this year have come against players who aren’t overly suited to the clay or don’t have the weapons, and Buzarnescu doesn’t fit either category here.
I will be taking the -2.5 game handicap for 1.5 units. I also like the -3.5 games at longer odds.
