Steve’s ATP Tokyo Games Preview: Djokovic vs Zverev

Posted on

This has the potential to be the match of the tournament, and back to best of 3, this is the best chance Alexander Zverev has in terms of knocking off Novak Djokovic in a match of significance.

This is the most vulnerable spot for Djokovic, the step before the gold medal match. He now comes up against a player who has had success against him on the surface, be it winning sets and winning a previous head to head match-up. This is the first match-up with an opponent who has a serve capable of earning cheap points. Zverev has looked solid across the week, apart from a slight hiccup against Basilashvili. Whilst you can almost write off the Australian Open meeting between these two given the injury issues around Djokovic, the German has certainly found ways to pressure him in the shortened format, and been able to show some success against the Serbian in tiebreaks.

There is nothing I really need to add regarding Novak Djokovic. He is the best player on the tour, and one of, if not, the best men’s tennis player of all time. That being said, he is just a little short in terms of his odds in this match-up on slow hardcourt. Zverev will need to take risks here and go big on serve, and for mine looks value north of $4.

Just the 1.5 unit selection here. I also like the total going over.

Suggested Bet:

1.5 units Zverev to defeat Djokovic at $5.10 at Unibet/Betfair
