Steve’s ATP Wimbledon Preview: Garin vs Martinez

Posted on

You may have noticed a couple of tweets from me yesterday as I took in the match between Cristian Garin and Marc Polmans. On reflection, I do feel as though Polmans lost the match a little more than Garin won the match.

Garin takes to the court again today, as a heavy favourite against Pedro Martinez, who backed up his win over Stefano Travaglia with a 4 set win over Gael Monfils in round 2. Whilst he originally came onto the scene moreso as a claycourter, Martinez has shown over the last year that his game, and his competitiveness, translates to all surfaces. He will give a fantastic account of himself, and should enjoy having a little more time on the ball today than he has versus Travaglia (and to a lesser extent Monfils).

Garin has been solid without being spectacular across the course of the two rounds here, and as I mentioned yesterday I have some question marks. One was his decision making off the back of losing some key points.

The issue with Garin is the fact that he can hold onto his frustration a little more than most other top ATP players, meaning sets can get away from him, such as the third set against Polmans yesterday. Given his indifferent form through the first couple of rounds, and the strength of the play of Martinez.

Just the one unit selection here, however I do feel Martinez on form at the handicap is worth a small play.

Suggested Bet

1 unit Martinez +4.5 games vs Garin at $1.96 at Unibet
