Short and sharp here, as this looks a good opportunity to get behind a player at home.
I have been pretty critical of the overall grass form of Dusan Lajovic for his career, and a 5 set win over Gilles Simon at this stage of the Frenchman’s career is not going to be changing my opinion in any way. After rain interrupted things, it ended up being a total of 4 hours on court for round 1 for Lajovic, who is backing up today against not only Dan Evans but the British crowd as well.
Evans looked great in round 1 against a very crafty and capable opponent on grass in Feliciano Lopez. Evans got the job done in straight sets, and with the loss of Alex De Minaur and Stefanos Tsitsipas from this part of the draw in round 1, things have really opened up for Evans.
It doesn’t take a lot of study of the game of Evans to realise how comfortable he is on the grass, and how well suited his game is overall. I don’t see any areas in this match where Lajovic is going to be a threat, especially over the longer format when coming off a 5 set match. If Evans can continue to keep his unforced errors down (had 14 in round 1), he should be able to cover the game handicap here. I will take Evans at the -6.5 games for 2 units.
2 units Evans -6.5 games vs Lajovic at $1.80 at Bet365
